The pen is mightier than the sword

We know words have power.  So why is that we often try to force what we want out of life by running about in an attempt to change, only to see old patterns repeating themselves?

Write it out.  Place your goals on paper on in your computer and use their contents to meditate on or think about, daily, if you can.  Make sure the goal is written in the present tense, and it's best if you can make them around a feeling "I am fulfilled and full of gratitude"or "I feel successful and valuable at work".  Have fun with your goals - create a collage or place them in a special box or fun folder name.

  1. Good morning Vanessa,

I agree with you. Goals are important. It's important to say what we want. I even have goals about how I want to behave when feeling certain way, i.e., if I'm fearful, angry, discouraged, etc.

I have written down on 5x8 cards, on the side that has lines, alternatives to these negative emotions.

I also have monthly, six month, annual and 5 year goals, that are ongoingly revised.

The ancient Greeks had a saying: "If you aim at nothing, that's exactly what you'll get."

I even have goals regarding relationships. Yep, I do. They are my "must haves" and "can't stands."

They are the boundaries that help me keep perspective, when relating with others. The following is one link where I discuss this idea. Like everything, I ask everyone to take what they like and leave the rest.

    1. Whoa! Great tips Pablo. I will be stealing those. I never thought about "tweaking" my goals as I go but hey, why not right? I have so much to learn about boundaries and it may be an idea to be proactive about them. Thank you!

    1. Every day!! That's dedication, I love it. I think five year goals are an interesting one to look at, it asks you to crawl out of yourself and look from above - what do I really want? I read a great book called 10-10-10. It's all about taking two choices and seeing how they'd each impact you ten minutes from now, ten months and ten years. Or you can do ten seconds, ten days and ten weeks…anything really.

Love that you have a shrink - they are freaking angels in people clothes - bless!

  4. Hmmm, and there's me scardy cat... not saying much, not writing much... I dream my goals and only voice them when actioned... thinking them in the present sense is almost a sin! :) Perhaps something to explore, some day...

  5. Is there a fear that they may not come true if you say them out loud? I used to think that. But I've learned the universe is begging to know what you want from it…the possibilities are endless. And when those goals are spoken or written, the universe can grab hold of it and begin making changes to lead you in the right way.

    Take your time, no rush!!
